My Photographic Journey
Once upon a time — long before Facebook and iPhones — there was a bored, spotty teenager trying (and failing) to figure out what to do with his life as school came to an end.
He had no useful answers.
So he came up with a plan: art school. How hard could it be?
Would my parents buy it? Not at first. But with no better options on the table, they eventually gave in.
It soon became clear I wasn’t destined to be a painter or a sketch artist.
Then everything changed.
My Uncle Derry owned a proper camera — a Nikon FM. I borrowed it… and never gave it back.
Using what I’d learned in art classes, I started putting theory into practice: light, composition, texture, leading lines, and that elusive decisive moment. Suddenly, it all made sense.
I began photographing local bands, selling the occasional images to publications — just enough to fund buying more film…
Before long, I became “the camera guy,” photographing friends’ weddings, birthday parties, sporting events, portraits, and the odd local fashion shoot.
I loved it. I was completely hooked.
Since those carefree days, photography has always been part of my life. I’ve attended countless workshops and seminars, always learning, always feeding the obsession.
Fast forward to today. When I’m not photographing weddings, you’ll find me wandering towns and cities chasing the adrenaline rush of street photography — or slowing everything down, immersed in nature, capturing wildlife and landscapes.
The obsession never really left, It just grew up with me.
